9/16/2015 · If you find a valve out of adjustment , then button it up and take it to a mechanic you trust to adjust the valves . More than likely you will NOT find any out of adjustment . In the FZ1 world (very similar top end design) actual valve adjustments, even after 100k miles, are very rare and I suspect the same out of the FZ09.

Seems this is already all over the forums/interwebs/etc but just FYI I’d recommend checking your valves sooner than the rec. 25k. All my exhaust we’re crazy tight and 3 were at .08mm with a spec of .26-.30mm, intake was dead on. some research online showed people were finding the same, even at 10k miles.

The valves are opened by cams or rocker arms on the camshaft, which push the valve ’s tappet, which forces the valve to open. If the clearance between the valve stem and the cam or rocker arm isn’t perfect, the valve will open and close at the wrong time, or may not close all the way. Adjusting the valve clearance will resolve this issue.
